Support Sophia and Troop 772

Who doesn’t love Girl Scout cookies?

And no better time to support Rappahannock Troop 772 — and Sophia Farmer in particular, who is seen here enticing motorists on Route 211 in Sperryville with her clever cookie sign and pretty smile. More on the Girl Scout cookie season, which lasts through March 15, can be found in Jan Clatterbuck’s Washington

One of the most worthwhile Rappahannock County winter events is the annual Benevolent Fund Celebrity Waiter Dinner, held Saturday at the Washington School House. I had the opportunity to attend this year. No better way to beat the winter blues and raise money for a great cause in our county. This year’s theme was the 60’s, with all the peace, love and rock n’ roll. Believe me, imaginations ran wild. Almost everyone was dressed up. Really brought back memories of the ’60’s.

Dinner was served family-style, including chicken, pulled pork and salad. There were side dishes prepared by volunteers, and complimentary beer and wine, along with water and coffee. I can’t forget the desserts. Brownies, cake, and jello topped with cool whip. Then came the auction. So much bidding took place. You sure can tell that Rappahannock County loves its people.

This annual event is the primary fundraiser for the Benevolent Fund, which supports our neighbors in need. After all, neighbors helping neighbors is what Rappahannock is really about. The Benevolent Fund is an expression of that love.

COOKIE TIME

Everybody loves Girl Scout Cookies — and it’s cookie time through March 15!

And keep in mind the cookies you buy help do great things for the community.

Rappahannock County Troop 772 was busy Sunday at the Sperryville Trading Post, their table filled with boxes of cookies. They were stopping everyone going into the restaurant.

According to Heather Farmer, the co-leader, Jonathan Clatterbuck being the dad he is was willing to step out for the girls and wave the sign pulling in cars from 211. What a dad will do to help out his daughter and the team.

Keep your eyes open around the county on weekends through the first week of March for booths selling cookies and be sure to stop and buy some.

Heather and the girls would like to thank Eric Tollesfson and his staff at Sperryville Trading for being so accommodating to them. They were all so sweet and good with the girls.

INN VALENTINES

The Inn at Little Washington has become known as a romantic fantasy world far removed from the harsh realities of modern day life, one where couples can indulge in a once in a lifetime dining experience from chef Patrick O’Connell.

This Valentine’s Day, O’Connell and his team will be offering three tasting menus, including a special Valentine’s Day menu with standout items including “A Tin of Sin,” imperial osetra caviar with peekytoe crab and cucumber rillette, a chartreuse of Maine Lobster with savoy cabbage with white wine butter sauce; and to conclude the meal “Bleeding Hearts.”

Guests can enjoy the Valentine’s Day tasting menu from Thursday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 16. Pricing: $248 per person Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; on Valentine’s Day the menu will be offered for $298 per person.

By the way, the Inn celebrated its birthday on Tuesday — 42 years.

VISITING FAMILY

Mae Racer and daughters Beverly Exline and Hope Huff of Washington, along with sister Mary Gochenour from Front Royal and her daughter Cindy Richardson from Strasburg, left last Friday for a short trip down South to Marion, Va., to visit family Sandy Stoots, Crystal Owens, Leska and Paul Stoots and Allyssa and baby Ethan Stoots.

According to Mae, everyone is doing well and much family time was spent, catching up on things down South. They came back on Sunday evening.

Have a wonderful week!
