The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, a patriotic, historical and educationa­l society, will be celebratin­g George Washington’s Birthday at 3 p.m. The minutemen will honor the 1st president with a color guard, wreath laying and reading of his farewell address. ➜ MASQUERADE BALL:

The annual Friends of SAFE Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball will be held at The

Culpeper Center, 137 S. Main Street in Culpeper, from 7 to 11 p.m., featuring music, live silent auction, and culinary delights from the area’s best chefs. Proceeds will help fund the continuing renovation and operation of a second shelter that was recently donated to SAFE, as well as help to support other ongoing programs. Founded 39 years ago, SAFE provides programs and safe shelter for men, women, and children who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse in Rappahanno­ck, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Orange counties.

➜ BLUEBIRD BOXES:

Rappahanno­ck County Recreation­al Facilities Authority (RCRFA) will install Bluebird boxes for the Bluebird Trail from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Rappahanno­ck County Park. Kid friendly (with accompanyi­ng adults). Supplies and tools will be provided.

➜ SHRIMP AND OYSTER DINNER:

Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. is having its shrimp and oyster dinner — all you can eat — from 4 to 7 p.m. at the station. Cost is $40 for adults with advance tickets, $50 for adults at the door, $20 for children (4-12 years old), $10 for children (4-12 years old) eating dogs. Free for children 3 and under. ➜ RAPPAHANNO­CK HISTORICAL SOCIETY

on Gay Street is hosting “African Americans and the Vote,” a new traveling exhibit developed by the Carver 4-County Museum. Rappahanno­ck Historical Society will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week and next for folks to visit and experience the exhibit. They will also be open on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m., for a book signing for Lillian Aylor's book, "I'll Get It Done." They will also be open on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The display lasts through February. It will be featured at historic Scrabble School March 27-28.
