Super Tuesday comes to Rappahannock County
Bernie to Biden, Bloomberg to Buttigieg on the ballot
The 2020 Virginia Democratic Party Presidential Primary Election — otherwise called Super Tuesday — comes to Rappahannock this Tuesday, March 3, with polls countywide opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m.
Virginia is one of 15 jurisdictional primary contests scheduled on Super Tuesday for the 2020 presidential election.
Plus, it’s an open primary, so any registered voter in Rappahannock County can cast a ballot regardless of party registration.
“Right now we are eagerly looking forward to the results of South Carolina’s primary this Saturday,” says Rappahannock County Democratic Committee Chair Mary-Sherman Willis.
“Democrats in Rappahannock should know that the ballot they’ll see has 14 names, of whom six have dropped out of the race,” she adds. “Remember to bring a valid ID, and make your voice heard!”
After the statewide voting, Virginia will award 124 delegates, 99 of them pledged at the local level. The ultimate nominee Democrats crown later this year will face President Trump on November 3.
Among the more familiar names on the Rappahannock ballot are Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Michael Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg and more.
Be advised that the last day to vote “in person absentee” at the county’s Central Absentee Precinct — 262A Gay Street in Washington — is this Saturday, Feb. 29, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, as Super Tuesday approaches, new polling this week from The Institute for Policy and Opinion Research at Roanoke College shows that Virginians support every Democratic candidate over Donald Trump in head-to-head matchups.
Each of the Democratic candidates named in the poll out-performed Trump by 6 to 9 percentage points.
Here's how each matchup turned out: Bernie Sanders beat Trump 49 to 40 percent Joe Biden beat Trump 48 to 40 percent Elizabeth Warren beat Trump 48 to 41 percent Pete Buttigieg beat Trump 47 to 40 percent Michael Bloomberg beat Trump 46 to 40 percent
Amy Klobuchar beat Trump 46 to 39 percent The poll also found a majority of Virginians — 52 percent — disapprove of the way President Trump is handling his job, while 36 percent approve.
