Huff ’s new ‘Pit Stop’ coming to Sperryville

- Jan Clatterbuck jan@rappnews.com; 675-3338

David Huff has found a new building to replace his former Country Cafe — albeit this new food establishment will be carry-out only.

The Country “Pit Stop” Cafe will be housed in the building currently occupied by Burgers N Things on Route 211 in Sperryville. The Pit Stop will be open every day but Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

While there will be no tables inside the establishment, patrons can sit outside at picnic tables along the Thornton River. The Pit Stop should have its opening by spring.

Huff, who announced the opening on his Facebook page, previously operated the Country Cafe in Washington, which closed last year after celebrating 30 years.

Meanwhile, I talked with Toni Kosturko by phone on Tuesday morning, who is the owner of the business at Hackley’s Country Store in Amissville. She said she will be retiring in the spring. She will miss everyone that supported her over the years.

Word is that the current owner of Burgers N Things will be taking over Hackley’s, but that could not be confirmed.

Toni also had a consignment shop in her store and she said if anyone has items there they must pick them up by Saturday, Feb. 29.

David, I wish you the best in your new place. Toni, I wish you the best in your retirement.

COMMUNITY LENTEN SERIES

Community Lenten series, sponsored by the Rappahannock Clergy Association, begins on Wednesday evening, March 4 and continues through the next four Wednesday nights. Held at Washington Baptist Church, the community potluck dinners in the Fellowship Hall begin at 6 p.m., and are followed by worship in the sanctuary beginning at 7 p.m.

This year’s theme will be “Healing a Hurting World,” which takes its inspiration from II Chronicles 7:14. Each service will focus on a specific aspect of healing: grace, mercy, peace, hope, and loving kindness.

As in past years, area congregations, clergy, and choirs will come together to participate in this very special series of community Lenten services.

On Wednesday, April 1, a community choir made up of members of several congregations directed by Wendy Aichele will present “Enter Paradise” — an especially moving contemporary anthem by Regi Stone and Kristie Braselton.

All are welcome to attend both the potluck suppers and the services. For additional information, call Washington Baptist Church at 540-675-3336.

KITE FLYING

February is nearly behind us, which means kite flying is just around the corner. March, if you didn’t gather, is the month for kite flying.

Make sure you are in an area that is open and free of trees, electrical and telephone lines, buildings, and automobile traffic. Always walk in the direction of the wind as you feed out the line. To land the kite, walk toward it winding the line on the reel as you walk.

I’m looking forward to flying a kite this year with my grandchildren. Kite flying is great fun and it’s easy. So grab your kite and join in the fun. There’s enough big blue sky for all of us who love to fly them.

Have a great week.
