Tremendous support for Rapp County Park
Dear Rappahannock County,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of support for the Rappahannock County Park Foundation during the 2020 Give Local Piedmont event on May 5. The foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to enable us to raise money and qualify for grant opportunities to help the Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority (RCRFA) in funding equipment, improvements, and maintenance of the Rappahannock County Park.
As the newest nonprofit organization in Rappahannock County, we are very pleased that through your generosity, we were able to raise funds to continue planned improvements in collaboration with the RCRFA. These projects include refurbishing the “pirate ship” playground, building a year-round accessible (handicapped) family restroom, adding more native species and more.
While the Rappahannock County Park is currently open for outdoor exercise with appropriate social distancing and safety precautions, when restrictions are fully lifted, we will be able to take advantage of all of the amenities offered: Dark Sky Events, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard, corn hole, mini frisbee golf, basketball, skateboarding, walking the Rush River Bluebell trail and the new Bluebird Trail. Check out the hundreds of native trees recently planted and the two native pollinator gardens. And we dare you to find an invasive tree in the forest!
We are looking forward to the rescheduled 42nd Fodderstack 10K Classic Race in the fall of 2020. As this fundraiser provides 85 percent of the park’s annual income, we hope you all will come out and run, walk, volunteer, celebrate with food and drink, and support your neighbors and your park. Check local media for updates.
Although Give Local Piedmont is over for the year, we welcome tax deductible contributions and/or help at the monthly volunteer work days on Saturday mornings
