Firehouse Treasures reopening

- Jan Clatterbuck jan@rappnews.com; 675-3338

Despite being somewhat chilly on Sunday, I hope all the moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day — and didn’t have to do any cooking! I really enjoyed my day o .

TREASURES ADAPTS

Hey there friends of Firehouse Treasures! One of my favorite shops is reopening this Tuesday, May 19 at Noon. For the health and safety of both customers and volunteers there will be rules to follow.

Masks are required to enter the shop; only four customers inside at any time; social distancing guidelines must be strictly adhered to. Six feet of space must be left between you and others. Following directional tape on the oor at check out is imperative. The shop will be cleaned every evening for safety. The dressing room is closed. There will be hand sanitizer for customers’ use.

Keep in mind if you feel sick, please stay home for the safety of others.

That said, if at any time the safety of the sta and customers becomes a concern, the shop reserves the right to close. Rest assured Firehouse Treasures wants people to come and shop while remaining safe. They’ve missed everyone and are looking forward to reopening.

The new hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Noon to 4 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

PEONIES FOR SALE

Mike McCormick has been growing peonies since 1996 on his five acre farm along Fodderstack Road.

Selling cut flowers and herbs at the Reston Farmer’s Market was an exhaustive but rewarding experience for 20 years. A devastating house fire interrupted everything in July 2018. Over 250 peony plants survived and thrived in his well mulched beds. Over the next few weeks, cut flowers will be available for sale.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy to Nelson and Janet Jenkins of Washington on the passing of their son, Nelson "Frankie" Franklin Jenkins, III, 45, of Washington. Frankie passed away on Sunday, May 3, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas.

He was a master electrician and worked for the Smithsonian Conservation Biological Institute (SCBI) in Front Royal.

Because of social distancing concerns, there was a private service for the family only. A Celebration of Life will be held later, May 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, 5485 Mulberry Street, Stephens City.

My Prayers go out to the family.

MEMORIAL DATE CHANGE

The Memorial Service planned for William (Bill ) Johnson has been postponed due to coronavirus restrictions. The service originally planned for May 20 has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. on top of Red Oak Mountain.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there’s no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.” — Laini Taylor, author

Have a wonderful week.
