Prepare to vote
Rappahannock County on Tuesday, June 23, will hold Democrat and Republican primary elections for the 5th Congressional District and U.S. Senate respectively.
Director of Elections and General Registrar Kimberly McKiernan said voting will be different this year given COVID-19. Social distancing will be practiced at all Rappahannock polling stations, where voter masks are encouraged and appreciated.
A valid photo ID is required to vote. Residents are urged to verify voter registration, polling place, and valid Photo ID before Election Day. Rappahannock polling stations will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
That said, “Vote-at-Home” is especially encouraged given the pandemic via “Mail Absentee Voting.” Voters are ensured that absentee ballots are secure and counted. Citizens can request an absentee ballot online: https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation. Tuesday, June 16, is the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail.
In-person absentee voting (mask required) will also take place at the Rappahannock Voter Registration Office, 262A Gay Street in Washington. In-person voting dates: Monday-Friday, through June 19: 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 20: 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 20 (last day to vote inperson absentee ballot).
Next Tuesday, May 26, is the last day to register to vote or change voter registration information for the primary election.
