RAAC announces new virtual art exhibit

- Special to the Rappahannock News

The Rappahannock Association for Arts and Community (RAAC) says a silver lining of the new coronavirus reality is the many innovative ways that people have found to not only address their own basic needs, but help others and seek out meaningful connections to feed spirits and sustain community.

RAASCo D-19, continues to be guided by the principle that a community infused with the arts is stronger, livelier, and healthier.

In that spirit, a new monthly Virtual Art Exhibit series opens tomorrow, Friday, May 22nd at 5 p.m. This is the first exhibit of six monthly shows with talented local artists displaying their work. And there will be a virtual meet-the-artists event on Friday, May 29th at 7 p.m.

The May exhibit features six outstanding Rappahannock artists: Kevin H. Adams, Ruthie Windsor-Mann, Linda Croxson, Ron Paras, Kat Habib & Jen Cable, and Philip Ward.

RAAC will be offering two different options for viewing and experiencing the exhibits. The first is a 3-D platform where visitors “walk” through the virtual gallery to view works of art. The second is a more conventional 2-D platform that displays artwork on an online webpage. Both options will exhibit the same work, just differently.

Why?

Because the 3-D platform requires greater internet bandwidth RAAC wants to o er a less demanding alternative. Try out both and let RAAC know what you like about each option at: virtual.exhibits@raac.org

Future shows will incorporate suggestions as the series unfolds.

“Our goal is to provide an opportunity for Rappahannock fine artists to display their work to both a local and a broader audience during this time of social distancing. While the Virtual Art Exhibit series is no substitute for the Fall Art Tour, it is a chance for all to see, experience, buy, and meet the artists in a different way,” says Heather Wicke, RAAC Board member and chair of the Fall Art Tour.

Artists and galleries that have previously participated in annual Fall Art tours are eligible to participate in this virtual exhibit series.
