More than one way to vote on June 23

-

One cannot help but be distraught at the state of our country today, beset by crises unimaginable only a few months ago. But despite a global pandemic and the worst economy since the Great Depression, the workings of American democracy continue, and on June 23rd a primary election will be held to pick the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 5th Congressional District.

Voters will have the opportunity to choose among four excellent candidates: Roger Dean Hufstetler, a former Marine and Charlottesville entrepreneur; Claire Russo, also a former Marine and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; Cameron Webb, a physician at UVA hospital, and Rappahannock’s own John Lesinski, who, like Hufstetler and Russo, is a former Marine, along with having served on the School Board and Board of Supervisors.

If you think it would be nice to have someone from Rappahannock represent us in Washington, this is your opportunity. All bring a wealth of di erent experiences to the race, but they are close together on many issues, especially the desperate need for a ordable health insurance for all Americans.

The polls will be open on June 23rd and every e ort will be made to ensure that voting will be done in a safe manner, but voters also have the option to cast their ballots absentee, essentially voting by mail, which is safe, and honest, despite what some people with very bad intentions have claimed. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is June 16th, so time is of the essence.
