Sheriff’s deputy, teen taken to hospital after crash
Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving Rappahannock County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Ubben.
The crash occurred Friday, Dec. 30 at 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 211 (Lee Highway) and U.S. Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway), the agency said Monday in a news release.
A driver in a 2012 Toyota Prius was traveling south on Route 522 when they stopped at a stop sign, according to the release. As the Toyota proceeded across the westbound lanes of Route 211, it collided with a westbound 2016 Ford Explorer driven by Ubben. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn in the median.
Ubben was on duty at the time of the incident and traveling in his county sheriff's vehicle, he said.
Ubben, also a Rappahannock County School Board member, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was also transported to Fauquier Hospital for treatment, according to the state police. The deputy was wearing a seatbelt.
Ubben, reached by phone on Monday, confirmed he was involved in the crash and said he was out of the hospital and awaiting follow-up with a doctor. He declined to comment on his condition and directed all questions to Rappahannock County Sheriff Connie Compton. Compton did not immediately return a request for comment on Monday.
The driver of the Toyota, 19-year-old Bradley W. Adams of Middletown, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Fauquier Hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt. Adams was charged with failure to yield right of way at a stop sign, according to the state police.
