Where do you stand on the courthouse project?
“I support the decision to build a new courthouse. I agree with the three judges who spoke at the Sept. 11 meeting that the safety of everyone that uses this building is of the utmost importance. The Building Committee has done a great job showing that real professionals do live in Rappahannock. I feel an addition to the old courthouse would take away from the character of the existing building.
I hear many times from the citizens ‘Keep Rappahannock Rappahannock,’ and such drastic changes would certainly detract from the historic charm of this building. The old courthouse has served its purpose, the historical aspect should not be changed by an addition. This could come at greater cost than building a new building.”
What is the most urgent issue facing the county now?
“In my opinion Fire and Rescue are very big problems. Volunteers do a wonderful job, they spend many hours training, responding to calls and maintaining equipment and fundraising. Today volunteerism is on the decline in every county across the country. Hopefully when the need arises someone is responding to help. Let's hope that is never needed but we know it will be.”
Is there anything in your experience or background that would help you in your role as an elected leader? What is it?
“I have worked in county government for over 23 years now. I have worked on budgets, hiring, bidding and with contractors on many occasions. I have excelled at my job, and I am always happy to accept a challenge.”
Why do you want to be on the Board of Supervisors?
“I have listened to many of the citizens in the Wakefield district and was asked by many to run. I feel I can be their voice in the district. I look forward to being the Voice of the Wakefield District and bringing what the citizens here want.”
