Missy McCool

-

53, Washington, stay-at-home mother of two, former president of the Rappahannock County Public Schools Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), member of RAAC Theater

What inspired you to run for the School Board?

“I decided to run because the people that I think a lot of asked me if I would and thought that I would be a good candidate. I was on the PTO for a number of years and served as the vice president and during that time, we were able to increase our fundraising and put in some really great projects at the school. We paved the perimeter path. We did a lot of the playground improvement.

I've also been serving on the parks board for the county park and we've made some really great improvements.”

What are your biggest priorities in this election?

“Just to continue the good work that I feel like our school and our School Board have been doing. So I feel like they've made some very good recent strides in the right direction to make a lot of different opportunities available to the students. And I want to continue with that.”

Anything else you want voters to know?

“I would like them to know that I'd like them to get out and vote. And that even though I'm the only person on the ballot for this, I want them to think about their vote and think about how important this job is because I take it very seriously.”

Jackson School Board member

Wes Mills

61, Amissville, 20 years School Board member, 17 years as chairman

What are you most proud to have accomplished in your terms of office?

“I think the greatest achievement for me as a board member has been to get and retain an excellent superintendent. . . And the

thing that I'm probably most proud of her implementing, are these academy models that she's created at the high school . . . Children that are graduating from Rappahannock can leave with certifications that enable them to get a job right out of school.”

What are your biggest priorities in this election?

“We have a great thing going as far as public school in Rappahannock County, and my goal is to make sure that continues for at least four more years. …We're on a great trajectory, and I just wanted to continue as long as I can help make that happen.”

Anything else you want voters to know?

“I'm always willing to listen, and I will do my best to represent the district. I hope they come out and vote. It's important that they're heard.”
