ROUGH TERRAIN

- ADVANTAGE: MONSTER TRUCK

Now we’re talkin’. This is the stuff most Slash and Stampede 4X4 owners are going to get into as quickly as the battery is charged. We hit exposed tree roots, uneven surfaces, rough dirt, and more to see how well the tough got going when the going got tough.

SLASH 4X4 Very rough terrain slows the Slash down due to its lower chassis and smaller tires. Exposed roots, rocks, and rough dirt tossed the truck around, but its responsive steering made it easy to make the necessary corrections to keep the truck on track. Tall grass sections put a strain on the power system and slowed the truck down.

STAMPEDE 4X4 The high ground clearance chassis and long travel suspension on the Stampede was right at home in this area. The Stampede was able to climb over stuff that stopped the Slash, and the monster-sized tires provided additional suspension. The short wheelbase, however, did make the Stampede more prone to getting bounced into an unintended direction, so more frequent course correction was required. Grass was no match for the Stampede; its large footprint tires floated over the green stuff and didn’t slow it down as much as the Slash. Easiest way to improve handling? Just turn up the TSM.
