UNDERSTANDING OFFSET

-

Another consideration for wheels is offset, which refers to the position of the wheel’s mounting surface relative to the wheel’s centerline (look at the illustration, you’ll get it).most vehicles don’t have different wheel offsets for the front and rear wheels, with notable exceptions: the Traxxas Slash, Stampede, and Rustler 2WD models all have front wheels with greater offset than the rears. When shopping for wheels for these models, they’ll be listed as fronts or rears—buy accordingly.

?? ?? The blue line is centered in the width of the tire’s tread. The green line shows where the rim mounts to the hub. The wheel on the left has close to zero offset, while the wheel on the left pushes the tire out (or “offsets” the tire) about 8mm.
