Hitting the Autobahn in Tamiya’s Porsche 911 GT3 (992)
Tamiya is at it again, and this time they have their sights set on the Porsche 911 GT3 (992). Known for fun yet realistic radio-control vehicles, Tamiya’s 1/10-scale radio-controlled replica of the Porsche 911 GT3 captures the essence of the Porsche 911’s eighth generation, the 992 model introduced in 2018 as a 2019 model year car, that’s still in production today.
Featuring a stunning and highly detailed polycarbonate body that replicates the sleek lines and curves of the real-life Porsche 911 GT3, this kit is an impressive sight to behold. This build-it-yourself assembly kit is based upon Tamiya’s versatile TT-02 chassis, which is perfect for beginners and offers plenty of opportunities for customization.
THE REAL 992
In the real world, the Porsche 911 GT3’S eighth-generation model brought some exciting changes, like the double-wishbone front suspension and a horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. To enhance performance, lightweight components and an aerodynamic design were extensively used.
The RC model reflects these details with a carbon fiber reinforced plastic front hood, just like in the production car. This feature adds a lightweight touch to the design. The hanging-type wing stay not only provides a stylish touch but also offers greater downforce and less drag, much like the real GT3.
THE RC CHASSIS
The adaptable TT-02 chassis is a star feature here. It boasts shaft-driven 4WD with a longitudinal layout,
placing the battery on the left and the motor on the right to ensure excellent stability. Plus, the identical left and right suspension arms and uprights make assembly a breeze, and the gearboxes are easy to maintain.
What’s more, this chassis is highly customizable, offering two different wheelbases, two ground clearance settings, two tread setups, and a range of ten possible gear ratios. But it’s not just about performance. It’s about looks too, with brake discshaped wheel hubs and stylish front bumper supports. The included realistic-looking mesh-type wheels are complemented by racing slick tires to ensure an authentic appearance.
LOOKING GOOD
The model comes with a lightweight

and durable polycarbonate body, complete with a separate polycarbonate rear wing and light cases for added realism. You’ll also find separate plastic parts molded in black that realistically depict side mirrors and wing stays, adding to the overall authenticity of the replica. Tamiya has always been known for its attention to detail and this Porsche RC kit doesn’t leave you wanting.
Dark gunmetal-colored wheels are paired with racing radial tires, ensuring that this RC car not only looks the part but performs well, too. The Usa-release of this kit even includes a Hobbywing ESC and silver can brushed 540 motor, making it ready to hit the road (or your preferred RC track) once assembled.
The kit also includes trim detail stickers and window masking tape to help you make this beauty truly your own. To complete the kit, you’ll need to get a 2-channel radio, a steering servo, a 7.2-7.4-volt battery with a compatible charger, and Tamiya PS paint is recommended.
