Man receives suspended sentence in domestic violence case
A man was given a suspended sentence in a connection with a 2023 domestic battery case in Sparks, according to a Wednesday release from the Sparks City Attorney's Office. Steven Lewis was given a fourmonth suspended sentence in a November domestic battery case with the condition that he will be placed on probation for up to two years and follow other guidance from the court during that period.
Lewis will be subject to regular drug and alcohol testing during the probationary period and complete alcohol counseling and attend domestic violence classes. Additionally, Lewis will spend two days in jail, complete 48 hours of community service and pay a $200 fine and other administrative fees.
On Nov. 3, officers from the Sparks Police Department responded to a call of a female in distress.
The female victim told officers that Lewis was intoxicated and was acting aggressively, according to information from the city attorney's office. The victim also stated Lewis had pushed her and broken a door while her two daughters, ages 2 and 6, were present.
The female victim said Lewis had cursed at her and pushed her through multiple different parts of the dwelling, according to information from the city attorney's office. Video from the incident shows Lewis cursing at the female victim and charging at her abruptly, the city attorney's office stated.
The female victim stated that at one point Lewis got on top of her, but she was able to get away. Following that, Lewis punched a door and caused damage to it, the city attorney's office stated.
Both children were present during the incident. “Prosecuting domestic violence, especially when it happens in the presence of children, will remain a top priority for the Sparks City Attorney's Office. Our office will continue to hold offenders accountable,” said Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan.
Lewis was convicted of domestic battery on Dec. 13, the city attorney announced.
