Hug football coach Anthony Doucette stepped down from the position on Wednesday following his second season at the school in north Reno.

Doucette had previously been the coach at North Valleys for eight years.

Doucette told the RGJ that he wanted to take a step back because of the demands from being a head coach as well as a teacher.

"It was a unique opportunity the last two years in getting to open a brand new campus and the Hug community deserves someone that is going to match their effort, energy and commitment going forward," Doucette wrote to the RGJ. "I'm proud of what the kids achieved in our two years together. They snapped a 40-game losing streak and Hug made it to the playoffs for the fiurst time since 2014. We doubled the number of kids playing football in the program."

He said Hug sent five athletes to college football programs last year and will likely send close to that many again this year.

Doucette will continue to teach PE at Hug.

Hug finished 6-4 overall, 4-1 in league in his first season there (2022-23). The Hawks went 1-10, 0-5 last fall.

Doucette, 34, spent 13 years total at North Valleys, eight as head football coach.

He led North Valleys to an undefeated regular season in 2021, posting an 8-1 record before a 21-14 playoff loss to Fallon, the program's first home postseason game since 2006.

Doucette went 21-48 overall and 14-32 in league play in his eight seasons at North Valleys.
