Spanish Springs, Manogue athletes up for Champion Chevrolet Athlete of the Week
These are the April 8-14 nominees for Champion Chevrolet RGJ High School Athlete of the Week, which recognizes top performances among Northern Nevada's high school athletes. Tyson Leone, senior, Reed: Leone went 4-for-5 at the plate with eight RBIs, two HRs, a single and a double in the Raiders' 20-10 win over Douglas in baseball on April 11.
Addison Gruber, senior, McQueen: Gruber was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run in the Lancers' 9-8 win over Reed in baseball on April 13. The Lancers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the victory.
Zack Silverman, senior, Reno: Silverman struck out 12 in the Huskies' 3-0 win over Damonte Ranch in baseball on April 11. He was also 1-for-3 at the plate.
Talia Tretton, senior, Douglas: Tretton did not allow a hit and struck out 14 in the Tigers' 3-1 win over Damonte
Ranch in softball on April 9. In a 7-1 win over Reed on April 13, she struck out 10, then struck out 10 again in a 2-1 win in the second game.
Caden Fowler, junior, Spanish Springs: Fowler allowed four hits and struck out nine with two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in the Cougars' 9-4 win over Carson in baseball on April 9. He was also 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.
Keenan Dolan, sophomore, Bishop Manogue: Dolan tossed 6 shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out 11 in a 6-5 win over Damonte Ranch in baseball on April 9.
