Wilcox Legion deals St. Marys Post 103 another shutout loss
The St. Marys and Wilcox Legion baseball teams faced off for the second time this week on Thursday night at Berwind Park in St. Marys, and as was the case in their previous matchup, Wilcox ended up heading home with a shutout victory. This time, the Post 467 squad won 9-0.
Luke Zimmerman led the way for Wilcox with a home run and a double, and Cam Marciniak also hit a double. Wilcox tallied a total of 12 hits in the game.
Tommy Slay started on the mound for St. Marys and worked four innings, giving up nine hits, walking two, and striking out three. Logan Mosier worked the next two innings, giving up two hits, walking three, and striking out one. Lucas Bauer worked the final inning, giving up one hit.
A trio of Wilcox pitchers combined for a two-hitter in the victory.
Dom Allegretto started and worked the first five and twothirds innings, giving up both hits, walking one, and striking out eight. Collin Porter took over for one third of an inning, striking out one. Kaden Dennis worked the final inning, throwing a total of 10 pitches and striking out all three batters he faced.
Wilcox took an early lead in the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Allegretto and Aiden Zimmerman led off the game with backto-back singles, and then both scored on a single by Marciniak to make the score 2-0. Following a flyout, Marciniak scored on a single by Ethan Wells to increase the visitors' lead to 3-0.
The score remained that way until the top of the third when Wilcox pushed through two more runs.
A one-out double by Marciniak got things going, and then Dennis singled to put runners on the corners. Marciniak scored on a single by Wells, and then Dennis scored with Luke Zimmerman at bat to give Wilcox a 5-0 advantage.
Dalton Stahli drew a leadoff walk to start off the fourth inning, and then Aiden Zimmerman reached base on an error with one out. A two-out single by Dennis scored
Stahli to make the score 6-0.
Luke Zimmerman led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to extend Wilcox's lead to 7-0.
Wilcox scored their final two runs in the top of the sixth.

St. Marys struggled offensively, with the squad only putting runners on base in three of the seven innings.
The Post 103 team got their first base runner of the game in the bottom of the second when Slay led off with a single. However, he was immediately erased as Bauer hit into a fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the fourth, Vinnie Lenze reached base on a dropped third strike with one out but was unable to advance.
St. Marys' best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth when the team loaded the bases with two outs. Mosier reached on an error, Lenze singled, and Slay drew a walk, but a strikeout left all three stranded.
The 9-0 victory makes Wilcox 7-0 on the season. Wilcox 9
