SMI ends Elk County Tool & Die’s undefeated run

St. Marys – St. Marys Insurance put an end to the fifteen game winning streak Elk County Tool & Die put together to start the season, handing ECTD a 17-5 loss Friday night in action at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

Helping SMI (134) take down ECTD were Nathan Liggett, TJ Breindel, Kurt Eckert, and Jake Cortina, who all hit homeruns. Breindel finished 3 for 3, Kenny Vogt was 3 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI's, and Cortina and Liggett both knocked in three runs each.

Offensivel­y for ECTD (15-1), Cory Huff and Nathan Schneider had the hot bats for the Diemen, going 3 for 3. Danny Singer added a double in the losing effort.

ECTD 15-0 start is what may be the second longest winning streak to begin a season in league history, falling a game short of the 2018 Allegheny Coatings Goats, who began the season 16-0.

In the other game Friday night, Carlson Technologi­es shutout Wildwoods (1-16), 16-0.

Leading CTI (108) was Eric Herzing, who went 4 for 4 with 2 triples. Brett Herzing went 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI and Mike Miraglia pitched in with another homerun and 3 RBI.

Tubby's opened the week upsetting Allegheny Coatings 2012 on Tuesday night, then thwarting Dino's Place 28-9 on Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, Garrett Hornung tripled and homered twice to lead the Tavernmen (8-9). Bobby Jack also added a jack of his own and Ken Meyer threw in a double to secure the win over the Goats.

For the Goats (9-6), Justin Quiggle homered, doubled, and drove in 4 runs. Nick Brennen and Ryan Grimm both doubled and Rich Quiggle and Joe Jacob were both 3 for 4, with Quiggle notching 3 RBI's.

Tuesday's late game was a dandy, with Elk County Tool & Die staying undefeated, barely, squeaking past Carlson Technologi­es 7-6 in eight innings.

ECTD (15-0) had to rally from a 5-1, sixth inning deficit. Rudy Gleixner's 3-run dinger was the spark in the inning to ignite the rally. Brandon Sicheri and Kyle Williams added 3 for 3 performanc­es at the dish.

CTI got another perfect night at the plate from Mike Miraglia, who went 2 for 2 with a homerun and drawing a pair of walks. Brett Herzing and Dickie Peroze were both 2 for 3 in the losing effort.

On Wednesday for the Tubby's, Garrett Hornung and Matt Kriner both tripled, Bobby Jack (2), Jamer Cooney, and Saul Solveson all added doubles.

For Dino's (2-15), Alex Bon went 3 for 3, Jacob Kline, Alex Gorton, and Isaac Schlimm all finished 3 for 4, with

Kline smacking a double. Connor Bressler also doubled.

Allegheny Coatings got a big win over St. Marys Insurance Wednesday, beating them 14-8 to pull closer to second place in the loss column.

Coatings was again led by Justin Quiggle, who this time homered 3 times and collected 6 RBI's. Andy Eck and Derek Meyer also went deep for the Goats, with Eck also adding a double. Ricky Pearsall went perfect add the plate, going 3 for 3.

Thursday night began with CTI turning back Dino's Place 13-2.

For CTI, Miraglia again was a perfect at the dish, this time going 4 for 4 with 3 homers and 8 RBI. Eric Herzing added a triple while John Ackley and R. McClelland both doubled.

Jacob Kline led Dino's, going 2 for 3. Connor Bressler and Reese Novosel both had an RBI single.

Late Thursday night, Deprators Beverage took care of Tyler Landscape 17-12.

For Deprators (11-6), Austin Green smacked a pair of homeruns and Gavin Elmquist added a round-tripper. Ryan Heary, Tyler Wehler and Elmquist all added doubles for the winners.

Leading TLM (6-9) was Dalton Bauer, who went 2 for 3 with a homerun and 5 RBI's. Andy Glass went 3 for 4 with a triple. Al Schneider was 3 for 3 with a double and Jordan Weinzierl also doubled for the losers.
