Schedule set for Region 8 Legion tourney
The Wilcox Post 467 American Legion baseball squad starts play Friday morning at the Region 8 Championship at Northwestern High School Baseball Field in Albion.
The local boys will play the tourney's first game at 10:30 a.m. when they take on the second-place finisher from Erie/Crawford East – Millcreek.
Eight teams in two pools are vying for a trip to the state championship in Ephrata War Memorial Field in Lancaster County on Jul. 23.
Post 467 is in Pool A as is French Creek Valley that defeated them 1-0 to claim last year's region title in nine innings. Brockway, the third-place Elk/McKean finisher rounds out the group.
Wesleyville, the Elk/ Crawford top team; Titusville the secondplace finisher in the West; Smethport, who Wilcox defeated for the league title, and host West Erie County makeup Pool B.
Each team plays the others in their pool with the top two moving on to Monday's semifinals and championship game.
Post 467 plays French Creek on Saturday and Brockway on Sunday. Both games start at 4:35 p.m.
