Dickinson Center, Inc. celebrating 10 years at Ridgway facility
RIDGWAY- Dickinson Center, Inc. (DCI) will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary at their Ridgway location this August.
Dickinson’s main objectives are to provide expertise in the area of behavioral health, aid individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and offer children’s prevention services.
Along with Ridgway, Dickinson also has locations in St. Marys, Bradford, and Coudersport and currently has just under 200 employees serving in several counties other than Elk, Potter and McKean. They also serve Cameron, Forest, Warren, Clearfield, and Jefferson counties.
The emergence of a facility such as this came to Ridgway in 1958, as it was called the Ridgway Area Psychiatric Center.
After 24 years, the name of the organization was changed in 1982 to Dickinson Center, Inc. to honor the original founder, Dr. Robert J. Dickinson. Jim Prosper, who currently serves as the Executive Director of Dickison Center, is proud of this achievement for the organization and is eager to continue to assist members of this community moving forward.
“Management and the board members in 2011 had the vision to build this facility and serve the needs of our community then and well into the future,” Prosper said. “We are proud to celebrate 10 years of service at this location.”
On August 29, Dickinson will be holding a consumer appreciation picnic from 11 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. at their Ridgway location on 43 Servidea Drive.
To continue the celebration for the month of August, Dickinson will be having a random drawing to win a charcuterie board, crafted by Dickinson Center’s Elkwood Arts team. For entry, follow Dickinson Center on Facebook and like and share the contest post on the page.
The organization looks to continue to grow, as they have intentions on launching a capital campaign to build a state-of-the-art facility in St Marys.
Additionally, they are accredited under the Standards of Excellence Program by the Pennsylvania Association of non-profit organizations (PANO). The efforts of this program is to ensure the highest standards of ethics, effectiveness, and accountability in nonprofit organizations.
