Elk County Fair officially opens for the week
FOX TOWNSHIP The Elk County Fair officially opened for the 2022 season on Tuesday evening with an opening ceremony followed by the traditional Elk County Fair Queen court contest.
Emily Peluso was crowned as this year’s Elk County Fair Queen. Peluso is a 17-year-old senior at Johnsonburg Area High School and is the daughter of Brandi Salter. Joining her in the court are Junior Queen Daelynn Dinsmore, age 12, and a seventh grade student at St. Marys Area Middle School. She is the daughter of Dusty and Danielle Dinsmore.
Rounding out the court is Princess Samantha Petrini, age 9, and a fourth grader at Bennetts Valley Elementary School. She is the daughter of Jamie Petrini.
Fellow fair royalty from Jefferson County and Clearfield County were guests at the ceremony which was emceed by Jeff Buchheit of The River 98.9 and included comments from Elk County Fair Board President Jeremy Dorsey, Elk County Commissioner Matt Quesenberry and a prayer offered by Fr. Daghir. Other local leaders were also on hand at the event.
Youngsters flocked to the many rides, provided by American Amusement Rentals, ranging from a giant slide, swings, Ferris wheel and several children’s rides. An array of food booths offered both sweet and savory items as well. A fireworks display concluded the opening day of the fair. Tuesday also marked senior citizen night where adults age 65 and older were offered a discounted admission price.
Today at the fair is the Power Wheels Race, pallet upcycling contest, mini Sprint cars. On Thursday is the Key
stone Mini Rod Tractor Pulls with the Mud Bog on Friday along with a performance by the Average Joes band. The popular Mud Bog race is slated for the final day of the fair on Saturday along with a performance by the Midnight Revival band.
Taking place daily at the fair are entertainment by Stagecoach Riders, Charlie the Jester, First Bite Fishing which is a children's attraction where they can catch and release live fish, Glass Blowers and the Rock N' Roll Pet Show.
The fair is open 4-10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and opens at noon on Saturday.
