Ridgway Public Library upcoming programs in July

- By Jake Mercer Staff Writer

RIDGWAY- The month of July is a very busy time for the Ridgway Public Library (RPL). The summer reading program is approaching the midway point, as they will hold a two day midway prize party on July 11 and July 12.

One of the attractive features of this two day celebration will be an ice cream bar, with the ice cream being generously donated by Elk County Foods.

The RPL set a goal for the users of the Beanstack app to read 750 book throughout the entire year. The RPL utilizes Beanstack to allow readers to track their progress of reading through their mobile app.

At only the halfway point of summer reading, already 911 books have been logged as read which is very impressive to RPL Director Rachel Keller.

“It’s great to hear how many people are reading throughout the summer and keeping their kids engaged in reading and literacy programs,” Keller said. “I’m very happy with how people are responding to the program.”

They also have a teen book chat and craft book club that is ongoing, and this is in an effort to get community members of all ages involved in summer reading.

Other things happening in July for the RPL will include a jewelry and metalship workshop in a partnership with ECCOTA that will be held July 10 through July 13 at the library from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This workshop is for anyone ages 16 and up and can register by calling the library directly.

Rounding out the month will be a botanical watercolor painting on July 17 and a Carnegie Science Center on the Road STEM activity held at the RPL on July 28 at 11 a.m.

Summer activities are heating up for the Ridgway Public Library and there are plenty of chances for everyone to get involved for the month of July.
