Bernie “Berndog” Ambrose 89, of Miller Township, Huntingdon, PA went to be with His Lord suddenly and unexpected­ly at his home on Monday June 26, 2023. He was born February 11, 1934 in Huntingdon to the late Ernie and Mabel (Cutshall) Ambrose. A 1952 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, Bernie entered the United States Air Force serving in a number of locations including Eilson AFB (Alaska) and Ben Guerir Air Base (Morocco) as well as Forbes Field in Topeka, KS where he met the love of his life, Glendell Swafford. Following his military service Bernie attended Juniata College and embarked on a life-long career with the Pennsylvan­ia Fish and Boat Commission as a Waterways Conservati­on Officer for Elk County headquarte­red in Ridgway, PA for nearly 40 years eventually returning to Huntingdon County in retirement. He enjoyed everything outdoors including hunting, fishing, and hiking and rarely missed a fall Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium cheering on his Nittany Lions. Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Glendell, of nearly 68 years; son Bret (Brenda) Ambrose of Prairie Village; KS; daughter Amy of Richmond, VA; his beloved Mini-Goldendood­le, Nittany; as well as, his brother and Malcolm Ambrose and Jennifer Clark, both of Huntingdon, PA; and many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernie Jr., Ron Louder, Maynard; and sister Joann Bishop. Visitation for friends, family and the public will be held at 11:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Monday, July 3, 2023, at John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington Street, Huntingdon, PA 16652. A Celebratio­n of Life service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 3rd, at the funeral home, with Pastor Joshua Massey officiatin­g. Military honors will follow immediatel­y following the service at the funeral home. A private committal ceremony for immediate family will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, PA, at a later date.
