Bulldogs back on top
On Friday in Brockway, Redbank Valley defeated defending champ Port Allegany 26-7 to capture its third District 9 Class A title in four seasons. The Bulldogs, who finished as the PIAA runner-up in 2021, are the lone district team remaining in the hunt for a state title. 2A champ Central Clarion (11-1) was eliminated by D8 champ Westinghouse (Pittsburgh) 46-30 at Clarion University and in DuBois, 3A winner Clearfield (84) was beaten 41-32 by D6 champ CentralMartinsburg (12-0).
Redbank senior Ashton Kahle caught nine passes from sophomore Jaxon Huffman for 249 yards and two TDs (21, 81 yards). Huffman, filling in for injured sophomore starter Braylon Wagner, finished with 344 yards and also hit senior Mason Clause for a 15-yard score.
Port senior Payton Stiles put his team on the board with a 49yard run with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The Gators (10-3) led 7-6 at the half.
On Friday at Meadville High School, the 11-1 Bulldogs open the PIAA playoffs against District 10 champ Cambridge Springs (12-1) which beat Lakeview (9-3) 32-29 on Saturday.
