The Lady Elkers outscored the Lady Wolves 37-11 in the second half to improve to 13-4 with a 60-33 win. The Elkers improved to 8-8 in Kane with a 4022 victory over the Wolves.

Girls

The win was the third straight for Ridgway following consecutive losses to Elk County Catholic (16-2) and St. Marys (14-3). The loss was the second straight for 8-8 Kane. Senior Jenna Kasmierski finished with 17 points, upping her career total to 1,004. She reached the 1,000 milestone (see Kasmierski hits…) with a pair of free throws with 2:04 left in the first half, putting her team up 23-15.

Kane followed the brief celebration with a 7-0 run to pull within one at the half, and a Mya Smith hoop 56 seconds into the third put the Lady Wolves up 24-23. Gabby Amacher, who scored 15 points, answered with a three, giving Ridgway the lead for good - 51 seconds later. Kristen Ellenberger scored 13 and put in a rebound to up the lead to four. Emma Vargas hit a jumper, making it 3024 with 5:21 remaining. A Leah Tigani three and a score by Smith made it a onepoint game with 4:46 left. The Lady Wolves would get no closer.

After the Smith score, the Lady Elkes grabbed control with a hoop by Kasmierski, six points from Ellenberger and four from Amacher, and a score from freshman Sophia Fullem, who finished with 10 points, making it 4431 after three. Ridgway ended the night with a 16-2 fourth period.

“I don't want to take anything from Kane because they played really hard and wanted the game,” said Lady Elker head coach Jay Schreiber. “We were trying too hard to make special plays instead of just playing basketball. At halftime, I said we're a better team with better players and need to relax and play the game.”

The Ridgway coach credited seniors Amacher and Ellenberger

with sparking things in the third.

“Hats off to Gabby. She was struggling shooting and came over to me a couple times to ask what she was doing wrong. I think it was in her head a little bit, but she adjusted with drives and dumpoffs to Kaz, Grace (Bon), and especially Sophia, and that really got us going. Her and Kristen's play at midcourt made a big difference once we started rolling.”

Bon, a junior, scored three points, her classmate Vargas scored two, and sophomore Sara Zameroski scored two. Sophomore Maddy MacAfee and freshmen Izzi Lawrie, Dana Beimel, and Neve Washburn saw time. Smith led Kane with 11 points. Hailey Hillman scored seven, Alexa Olmstead six, Isabella Saf four, Tigani three, and Kylie Iak two points.

The Lady Elkers will hold Senior Recognition Night on Friday when they host Eisenhower. They then get a visit from DuBois Central Catholic (10-7), who they beat 51-48 last Friday, on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Wolves played at Clarion Thursday night.
