D9 hoops – Rams lose, ECC wins
ST. MARYS – After Clarion took a 6-4 lead with 4:57 left in the first, Johnsonburg (19-7) would get no closer in the Bobcats' 58-38 District 9 Class A semifinal at SMAHS on Tuesday.
Clarion (17-8) entered as the threeseed and will play top-seed Elk County Catholic (23-2) in Saturday's championship game at PennWest Clarion.
The Crusaders were 44-32 winners over four-seed Cameron County (21-5) also at SMAHS.
The Rams and Raiders play a consolation game on Friday at a site to be determined. The semifinalists all advance to the PIAA championships which get underway next week.
On Thursday, fiveseed Union (12-12) and six-seed DuBois Central Catholic (1212) play in Brookville for the district's fifth spot.
Class 2A
Three-seed Karns City (19-6) beat twoseed Otto-Eldred (242), 50-48 at PennWest and will play in Saturday's championship game against top-seed Redbank Valley (20-2), 65-41 winners over fourseed Clarion-Limestone (16-10).
Otto and C-L play a consolation game on Friday. Three 2A teams advance to next week's PIAA tourney.
