Ramettes sweep Port
On Monday, the Paper City girls improved to 2-4 with a doubleheader sweep at Port Allegany (1-4).
The Ramettes won the first game 14-0 in five innings and beat the Lady Gators 20-5 in three innings in the second. According to the "mercy rule", games end after five if a team is up by 10 and end in three for a team up by 15.
Junior Natalie Dunworth was the winning pitcher in the first game and got the final two outs in the second, won by freshman Dan Beimel.
All the co-op girls hit safely, pounding out 29 hits in the two games. Among them was an inside-the-park home run by sophomore Josie Gerber, who finished the day with five hits. Junior catcher Zoey Grunthaner had six hits, including three doubles and seven RBI.
Beimel, who played short when not pitching, had three hits. Senior centerfielder Shelby Sorg finished with three hits, including a double. Junior second baseman Ruby Miller had a double and single in game two.
Others who joined the hit parade included first baseman Izzi Lawrie (2), freshman third baseman Icy Addeo (3), game-one second baseman Gianna Zimmerman (2), sophomore right fielder Gionna Dellaquila (2), and Dunworth, who played short before pitching in game two, had a hit and drew six walks.
