ROCKFORD - Ronald Balsam, a cherished member of the Rockford community, passed away at the age of 81, Rockford, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, following a courageous battle with kidney and heart disease. He was born November 20, 1942, in Rockford, the son of Chris and Venera (Vecchio) Balsam. Growing up in Rockford, Ron developed a deep love for education and later found success in the banking industry where he eventually retired. Ron was a graduate of Rockford West High School, class of 1960. He continued to pursue his passion for learning at the University of Iowa and at Rockford University, where he earned his BS in Economics and a MAT (Master of Arts in teaching).

In his leisure time, Ron found joy in playing and coaching tennis with friends, nurturing his lifelong fascinatio­n with cars and taking delight in witnessing his grandkids thrive. These hobbies brought him great happiness and allowed him to build strong connection­s with those around him.

Ron leaves behind his daughter, Jennifer Lozzio, her husband, Chris and their children, David and Meaghan; his son, David Balsam, his wife, Kimberly and their children, Riley and Kaitlan; his brother, Don Balsam and his wife, Cheryl and his sister, Sue Reichenspe­rger along with several nieces and nephews. Predecease­d by his loving parents, Venera (Vecchio) and Chris Balsam and his brother -in-law, Ed Reichenspe­rger.

A celebratio­n of Ron’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Known for his family and friends, Ron’s impact was felt far and wide. Ron will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and his legacy will endure through the memories and stories shared by those whose lives he touched.
