Diane Elaine Vermett, 73, of Capron, IL passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on March 16, 2024, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center Rockford, IL.

Diane was born on April 9, 1950, in Beloit, WI, the daughter of James and Frances (Chapman) Flanders. She married Arthur “Art” John Vermett, Jr. on June 24, 1972, in Harvard, IL. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially grandchild­ren Evan and Ella.

Diane is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Kyle) Crull and grandchild­ren Evan and Ella Crull of Capron; siblings Janet (Denny) Ellingson of Poplar Grove, Gary (Vicki) Flanders of Rockford, Dawn (Dave) McIntyre of Poplar Grove, and Joan (Dan) Smaha of Capron; Special in-laws Ann (Stephen) Johnson, Patricia (Tom) Wallace, Randy (Susan) Vermett of Capron and Linda Vermett and Lynn Vermett of Chemung; Numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.

Diane was an active member of the Capron Lions Club, The Harvard Moose Lodge, and Capron Lutheran Church and a past EMT with the Capron Rescue Squad. She coached volleyball and cheerleadi­ng at Capron Grade School and North Boone High School for many years. She and her husband Art were very involved in the North Boone Youth Baseball Program for most of their adult lives.

Diane spent 30 wonderful years in education. She taught for nine years at St. Joseph Elementary in Harvard and spent the next 21 years working for the North Boone School District as a classroom teacher and later a reading specialist. She loved teaching children how to read.

Diane was a very special wife, mother, grandmothe­r, sister, coach, teacher, and friend. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Art; her parents, James and Frances Flanders; brother, Jimmy Flanders; in-laws Art and Grace Vermett

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 10 AM until the 12 PM memorial service at Poplar Grove United Methodist, 105 E Grove St., Poplar Grove, IL 61065, with Reverend Dan Schenck officiatin­g. Inurnment will follow at Long Prairie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Diane’s honor to the Capron Lions Club, 305 E North St., Capron, IL 61065.
