Vote now for Rockford Register Star Student of the Week
It's time to pick the Register Star's Student of the Week.
This week's finalists includes a future teacher with an outstanding work ethic, a National Honor Society member who takes pride in helping her school and community, an honor student who teaches robotics to elementary school students and an aspiring bio-chemistry and bio-technology major.
We publish a list of Student of the Week finalists every Monday at rrstar.com and every Tuesday in the Rockford Register Star. Readers can vote online as many times as they wish until 11 a.m. Thursday.
The winner of the online poll is announced at rrstar.com every Friday and in print Sunday in the Rockford Register Star.
Here are this week's finalists.
Sarrah Hijazi, Guilford
Guilford High School junior Sarrah Hijazi possesses resilience and determination making her an inspiration to all who know her. She displays kindness and genuineness inside and outside the classroom. She has an outstanding work ethic and plans to make an impact in the community as a teacher.
Sindy Salto, Boylan
Sindy Salto is an active junior at Boylan Catholic High School and in the Rockford region. She is a member of the Titan softball team, National Honor Society, Key Club, Link Crew, and a Student Ambassador. Salto also is a volunteer at Saint Peter's and Saint Edward's churches and the Northern Illinois Food Bank. She is a kind and hardworking young woman who takes pride in helping her school and community.
Jocelyn Sintkowski, East
Jocelyn Sintkowski, 17, is a junior at East High School. She is a member of the National Honors Society and a contributor to East's Robotics Club. She is also taking her district-winning robot to Constance Lane Elementary School to teach the students about robotics. Sintkowski is enrolled in AP Physics and AP
English and is maintaining a 4.1 GPA. She played softball for East as a freshman and sophomore. Sintkowski is employed at Chipotle, but still finds time to assist her dad in his 3D modeling work. In her free time Jocelyn is an avid gamer, currently playing Eldin Ring. She enjoys spending time outdoors riding bikes.
Hadley Slawson, Keith
Hadley Slawson, 17, a senior at Keith Country Day School is described as a "true renaissance woman." Some of her notable accomplishments and activities include interning in the University of Illinois Chicago - Rockford Campus researching mRNA vaccines. She is captain of the nationally ranked Keith quiz bowl team. She is a painter and artist and has taken every art class at Keith. Slawson is a member of the Model United Nations Team and represented Greece in the European Commission this year. She is a varsity tennis player and a member of the Keith snow sculpting team. She is also a passionate student of Latin and Greek who loves "The Odyssey." Slawson plans to major in bio-chemistry and bio-technology in college next year.
