Albertha Towns

ROCKFORD - Albertha Towns was welcomed into God’s presence on April 13, 2024. She was born in St. Louis, MO July 18, 1937; the third of eight children born to Lawrence Carvin and Helen (Clayton) Brooks. She accepted Christ and was baptized as a preteen.

Albertha graduated from Lincoln Sr. High School in E. St. Louis, IL in 1955. Shortly thereafter, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl O. Towns. To this union was born four children; three daughters and one son.

Although she worked outside of her home during most of her marriage, retiring after 21 years from Rockford Memorial Hospital, she felt that being a wife, mother and homemaker was her real occupation.

Albertha was a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church for many years, serving under 4 pastors. She was actively involved in several ministries during this time.

Albertha leaves to cherish many happy and loving memories her 4 children: Carol Jo Brooks (Charles) of Lafayette, IN, Minister Carl L. Towns (Rebecca), Jacquelyn Denise Rogers and Jeanette Marie Towns all of Rockford, IL; 12 grandchild­ren, 12 great-grandchild­ren; her brother, Frederick A. Brooks of Rockford, IL and many friends and relatives. Albertha is predecease­d by her beloved husband, Carl Towns, special daughter, Karen Herd of Bellville, IL, her parents, five brothers and one sister.

She is the author of one self-published, copyright-protected book entitled “My Song of Praise”.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Rockford Rescue Mission.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at Pilgrim Baptist Church 1703 S Central Ave. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visiting with the family will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangemen­ts by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
