H OT PSYC H OACTIVE S LE E P AID CBN

- ELISABETH GARBER-PAUL

▶ IF YOU’VE ever smoked a longforgotten joint and fallen into a couch coma, you’ve already tried the cannabinoid CBN. “CBN really makes your body want to sleep,” says Kat Merryfield, founder of cannabis wellness company Kat’s Naturals. Unlike CBD, CBN attaches to cannabinoid receptors in your brain, giving you a “meditative” effect, Merryfield says, though “it’s not as psychoactive as THC.”

There’s a reason for this mild psychoactivity: CBN is just THC that has chemically decomposed over time. After years of research from folks like Ryan Lewis, founder of manufacturer Global Cannabinoids, CBN has been isolated from THC and is now being sold nationwide, in everything from edibles to vapes. “The feedback is dramatic,” Lewis says. “People are saying, ‘It’s the best sleep I’ve ever had.’ ”
