Warriors blanked by Ramblers

LaFAYETTE — A young Gordon Central team showed promise during the first half of their game against LaFayette Friday night, giving up only 10 points during the first half, but tired as the game wore on, giving up 27 points in the second half for a 37-0 road loss.

LaFayette kicked off to start the game at home. Gordon Central quarterbac­k Will Barrera rushed for three yards on the opening play. On third down of the drive, Barrera’s pass was intercepte­d by LaFayette’s wide receiver Nathan Bowman.

LaFayette began their first drive of the game on Gordon Central’s 42 yard line. KaDarrin Ramsey carried the ball for a 2 yard gain. Gordon Central received a five yard penalty for false start. Ramsey then rushed the ball 23 yards to get to the Warrior’s 11yard line. On the next play, Ramsey rushed the 11-yards into the end zone. The extra point by Mark Bennett was good, to give LaFayette a 7-0 lead with 9:30 left in the first quarter.

Gordon Central stopped LaFayette on their first down, but LaFaytte gained 6 yards on second down. LaFayette quarterbac­k Logan Teasley handed off to TJ Hawkins, who ran for a first down. LaFayette continued marching down the field, and got within field goal range. Mark Bennett for LaFayette made the field goal, making the score 100 in favor of LaFayette.

Gordon Central held the Ramblers to 10 points at the end of the second quarter, with the score being 10-0 at the half.

Ramsey rushed again for 9 yards, brought down by Cameron Pierce. Less than two minutes into the third quarter, LaFayette scored again, with a touchdown by TJ Hawkins, making the score 17-0 LaFayette. Gordon Central received the ball, but could not capitalize on the opportunit­y. Aguilar ended the drive by punting away, with 5:33 left in the third quarter.

Ramsey returned the punt for the Ramblers to the 28 yard line, for a 6 yard gain, brought down by the Warrior’s Jordan Green. LaFayette fumbled the ball on the next play for a loss of 3 yards. Teasley passed to Clayton Lane for a 67 yard touchdown, with 3:48 left in the third quarter. Bennett kicked the extra point for a 24-0 score.

LaFayette began the fourth quarter on their 6 yard line, and on the first snap, made a 5 yard gain. Teasley ran the ball into the end zone for the Rambler’s. The extra point kick was no good, making the score 30-0. LaFayette carried the ball down the field 63 yards to score a touchdown with 5:11 left in the game.
