Registration is underway for Roman Rumble 2015
Registration for the 29th annual Roman Rumble 5K and 2-mile health walk is now underway. The event will be held Sept. 19 at Ridge Ferry Park.
The race benefits Harbor House, also called the Northwest Georgia Child Advocacy Center, which provides services within the local community for children who have suffered abuse.
According to Gail Garland, executive director of the Harbor House, the race raised over $10,000 last year and had 444 participants. She hopes that goal is met or topped this year.
While the event is a tradition for many people, the team participation aspect has grown exponentially within the past few years.
“It’s a great way to challenge your coworkers and colleagues while supporting a great cause,” said Garland.
Children from both West End Elementary and Elm Street Elementary will also be running in the Rumble as part of their PE program.
“It’s so cool to see children participating in the event because the proceeds go towards children’s programs. It’s kids running for kids,” said Garland.
Pre-registration ends at midnight Sept. 16 and participants can pre-register for the event online at www.active.com or by downloading an application at www.romanrumble.com and mailing it in, post marked by Sept. 14.
The 5K pre-registration fee is $25 and the 2-mile health walk pre-registration fee is $20. Prices for the 5K will increase on race day to $30 while the Health Walk price will stay the same.
Race-day registration will be from 6:307:30 a.m. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. with the health walk following at 8:05 a.m.
