A new in-home caregiver agency based in Shannon is now offering a broad range of services — home health care, transportation and even landscaping — for residents of the Rome area.

Because of the rapidly aging baby boomer generation, the home care service sector is growing quickly.

Lisa Jackson obtained a Rome business license this past week for Southern Charm Senior Home Care, Burlington Drive, Shannon. Each of the company’s 28 employees is licensed, insured and bonded.

Jackson, CEO of the company, had been a manager for another home care service for about a year. She and a group of employees decided to buy out the owner and work for themselves.

Jackson warns against anyone simply considering her employees as senior sitters.

We’re not just a companion,” Jackson said.

She said aside from strictly providing inhome caregiver services, Southern Charm also has contracts with the Renaissance Marquis, Cedar Hills Assisted Living and Homestead Hospice.

“Say if you were going to go check on your mom, and you only have two hours, we do every single thing, even if it’s just to take them to get ice cream,” Jackson said.

Jackson said her team of caregivers ranges from a 20-year-old to a 70-yearold.

“If they need the grass cut I send the appropriate people. If they want to go hang out at a restaurant and sit at the bar I have one that will do that. It’s just what your family would do for people who don’t have family.”

The agency also offers 24-hour care for people who are really sick. Jackson said her caregivers also supplement hospice services a lot.
