Beard Lake Road will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. while Floyd County Public Works repairs the spillway at the south end of the dam, weather permitting. The closing starts at address No. 138. Residents with higher-numbered addresses on the dead end road are encouraged to make alternate parking and travel arrangemen­ts.

The North Rome Community Action Committee will meet Thursday at 6 p. m. at the Community Kitchen on North Broad Street. This is a very important meeting for the North Rome community. The group will dis- cuss issues that are important to citizens of North Rome. The Neighborho­od Improvemen­t Plan is on the agenda; this is a plan that focuses the city’s services on crime, code enforcemen­t and clean neighborho­ods. In addition, the group will discuss more business involvemen­t to attract more business in North Rome. The Rome Chapter of the National Associatio­n of Active and Retired Federal Civil Service Employees will meet Feb. 11 from 11: 15 a. m. to 1 p. m. at the Landmark Restaurant on Martha Berry Highway. The local chapter is concentrat­ing on their member recruiting and retention efforts. The guest speaker will be Dr. Brian McNeice, who will discuss flu season and the reason to obtain flu shots. Those qualifying for membership are invited to attend the meetings, and transporta­tion for prospectiv­e members ( living within the Rome area) may be available. FRIDAY

Georgia Legal Services Program will offer assistance Friday from 9 a. m. to noon in Suite 114 of the Judicial Building, 3 Government Plaza. The program assists low- income clients in a range of civil matters, including TPOs, public benefits, housing, consumer issues and school suspension­s. Single Friends is sponsoring a Valentine dance at the Charles C. Parker Center on Kingston Highway from 7 to 10 p. m. on Friday.
