Krispy Kreme grand opening set for Feb. 23
Someone will win a dozen doughnuts a week for a year.
Rome’s Krispy Kreme doughnut shop is slated to open Feb. 23 and finishing touches are being performed at the site, 1602 Turner McCall Blvd.
Assistant Manager Joshua Cook said one Krispy Kreme fan willing to camp out and start the line for the grand opening would receive a free dozen glazed doughnuts each week for a year.
The next 99 in line will receive a free dozen doughnuts a month for a year. Cook said other giveaways would also be available during the grand opening.
The Rome store will be open 24 hours a day, with a staff of between 70 and 80 employees, according to Cook. The staffing will settle into around 10 employees per shift after the anticipated initial rush.
Cook said all of the employees are being hired from the immediate Rome area. General Manager Ro- driquez White just opened a new store in Dalton.
“We are most definitely going to be making everything,” Cook said. In addition to its wide variety of doughnuts, the Krispy Kreme stores also feature a wealth of coffees and specialty coffees and other menu items.
Some of the employees who have already been hired have started training at the Dalton store. The in- store training in Rome is expected to begin Monday. People can still go online to fill out job applications at www. sweetplacetowork.com.
The parking lot and drive- through window lane have yet to be paved.
The timing of that will depend on weather considerations.
Meanwhile, work is underway on the new Wendy’s being built next door. Krispy Kreme is being built on the old Wendy’s site. Work is also underway on a major exterior renovation at the East Rome Burger King, 1313 Turner McCall Blvd.
