New Ringgold mayor discusses ideas

-

RINGGOLD — New mayor Nick Millwood has a bunch of new ideas for his tenure as the face of Ringgold, a couple of which he presented to the City Council recently.

With the city working on its recreational complex, Millwood says he’d like to develop some sort of wellness committee in the city to help organize and coordinate more events.

“The committee could help provide volunteers, coordinate with those existing events, and possibly come up with a few more little outdoor events,” Millwood said. “We could set up a 5K run during 1890s Day, or some sort of Zombie Run for Haunted Depot time.”

Millwood, a teacher, coach, and avid runner, says a lot of community members have already shown interest in serving on a board that looks for ways to promote outdoor activities and wellness.

“I’ve already began soliciting people to possibly be a part of this committee, it’s something we could build over then next month or two,” Millwood said.

New councilman Larry Black backed the idea, pointing out the areas in the city that could benefit from such a committee.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Black said. “We could use the committee to attract more people to the city to use our great amenities.”

Millwood said the committee could even do smaller things like organize time for volunteers to walk around the city picking up trash and things.

“This is just something I’m very passionate about, and I know a lot of other people in the city are as well,” Millwood said. “I think we’re already set up beautifully for this.”

There was no action taken on the matter by the council, but Millwood stated he would continue to work on the project.
