C.W. Matthews hiring 200 road, construction workers at job fair
Projects are in Rome, Cartersville, Cumming, Dawsonville, Gainesville, Griffin, Macon, Marietta, Norcross and Stockbridge.
MARIETTA — The Georgia Department of Labor will help C.W. Matthews, a highway and heavy construction company, recruit about 200 workers for projects in the region.
Future construction projects are planned in Rome, Cartersville, Cumming, Dawsonville, Gainesville, Griffin, Macon, Marietta, Norcross and Stockbridge.
The recruitment will be held Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the company headquarters, 1600 Kenview Drive in Marietta.
The company will hire carpenters, drivers with a commercial driver’s license, concrete finishers, distributors, equipment operators, foremen, pipe layers, superintendents and trafficcontrol coordinators. Some on-the-spot hiring opportunities will be available.
Because of United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, all applicants must be at least 18 years old.
GDOL staff will be on site to assist applicants in the screening process.

Polk working on comprehensive plan
CEDARTOWN — Polk County and its cities are working with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission to update the comprehensive plan for the next 10 years.
The cities of Cedartown and Rockmart, along with Polk County officials, all pointed toward assets like the Silver Comet Trail facilities and natural resources as areas of strength and opportunity.
Documentation and approval of the plan from local governments has to be completed by the end of February 2017.
The next meeting of Polk County stakeholders is set for March 3 at Cedartown City Hall in the Polk County Commission meeting room at 6 p.m.
