C.W. Matthews hiring 200 road, constructi­on workers at job fair

MARIETTA — The Georgia Department of Labor will help C.W. Matthews, a highway and heavy constructi­on company, recruit about 200 workers for projects in the region.

Future constructi­on projects are planned in Rome, Cartersvil­le, Cumming, Dawsonvill­e, Gainesvill­e, Griffin, Macon, Marietta, Norcross and Stockbridg­e.

The recruitmen­t will be held Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the company headquarte­rs, 1600 Kenview Drive in Marietta.

The company will hire carpenters, drivers with a commercial driver’s license, concrete finishers, distributo­rs, equipment operators, foremen, pipe layers, superinten­dents and trafficcon­trol coordinato­rs. Some on-the-spot hiring opportunit­ies will be available.

Because of United States Occupation­al Safety and Health Administra­tion regulation­s, all applicants must be at least 18 years old.

GDOL staff will be on site to assist applicants in the screening process.

Polk working on comprehens­ive plan

CEDARTOWN — Polk County and its cities are working with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission to update the comprehens­ive plan for the next 10 years.

The cities of Cedartown and Rockmart, along with Polk County officials, all pointed toward assets like the Silver Comet Trail facilities and natural resources as areas of strength and opportunit­y.

Documentat­ion and approval of the plan from local government­s has to be completed by the end of February 2017.

The next meeting of Polk County stakeholde­rs is set for March 3 at Cedartown City Hall in the Polk County Commission meeting room at 6 p.m.
