2 charged with burglary, theft

Two Silver Creek men were jailed in Rome on Monday after allegedly breaking into a home on Cedartown Highway just south of Walker Mountain Road.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Taylor Evan Dempsey, 18, of 3 Windy Hill Road, and Garrett Mason Crawford, 24, 1048 Pleasant Valley Road, were each charged with felony burglary in the second degree and felony theft by taking as well as misdemeano­r criminal trespassin­g.

Dempsey and Crawford are alleged to have stolen more than $2,000 worth of undisclose­d items from the home during an April 26 burglary. Documents at the jail indicate they caused damage to the home valued at less than $ 500 during the breakin.

The two were being held in jail without bond late Monday.

Man accused of aggravated stalking

A Rome man was taken into custody Monday after allegedly texting a woman who had taken out a protective order forbidding the man from having contact with her.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Mikel John Shelton Randleman, 45, of 37 View Drive, was being held in jail Monday night without bond on an aggravated stalking charge. Randleman is accused of texting a woman three times between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday morning. Randleman had been served with the TPO on April 29.

Police probing theft of camper

Floyd County police are investigat­ing the theft of a camper from property on Rockmart Highway between Brock and Marquette roads.

According to Floyd County Police Department reports:

The victim was awaked shortly after 3 a. m. Sunday when his dog started barking. The man saw some activity outside his home and went to retrieve a flashlight. By the time he got back to the window, he heard tires squealing and his camper being hauled off by a truck.

The victim told authoritie­s that the truck and camper were last seen heading down Ga. 101 in the direction of Rockmart.

Police were called back to the scene later Sunday, when the victim found a broken pair of eyeglasses that are being tested for fingerprin­ts.
