Rome’s Coosa River Basin Initiative is looking for new leadership.

Executive Director David Tucker has already left and Upper Coosa Riverkeeper Amos Tuck has turned in his notice, effective Aug. 5.

Joe Cook, advocacy and communication director, said the organization does plan to fill both Tucker and Tuck’s positions but the search for a new executive director will be done first.

“We’ll get that person hired and then let that individual fill out the rest of the staff,” Cook said.

Tucker, who served as executive director of CRBI for about two years, said he stepped down in May to become the director of federal programs for the Polk County school district. David Tucker Amos Tuck

He said he enjoyed every aspect of his work with CRBI. “It is a great organization, it’s a very worthwhile organization,” Tucker said. “I hope I was able to make a little bit of difference while I was there.” He plans to continue to work with the organization as much as possible.

Tucker said it was a financial challenge for CRBI to pay his salary along with three other positions. “In my opinion it was really more than they could handle,” Tucker said.

Tuck, who had served as interim executive director since Tucker’s resignation, is leaving to take a position with the Limestone Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council where he will manage water quality projects, including EPA grants. “After almost 5 years, I decided it was time for a new challenge in my career,” Tuck said. “My best work has always been done in the water, and I have enjoyed sharing my love and knowledge for our rivers and the things that live in them.”

Tuck said he was grateful for his five years with CRBI and is particularly appreciate of the nickname Fish Dude he was given while

spending a month on the rivers.

“I am excited for this new chapter in my life, and I am thankful I can continue to work with Georgia rivers and remain an active member of the Rome community.”

“We’re going to do the best we can over the next little while, but I think we will have some good applicants for the executive director position,” said Cook.
