Timothy Joe Staton

Mr. Timothy Joe (Tim) Staton, age 57, of Rome, Ga., passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, in a Rome nursing center.

Tim was born in Atlanta, Ga. on May 30, 1959 a son of the late Howard C. (Buddy) Staton and Betty Sue Aycock Staton. He attended Peachtree High School.

The family lived in the Doraville area before moving to Acworth and then to Rome in 1988.

Tim was affectiona­tely known as “Shorty” by many of his friends.

Survivors include a sister, Beverly Smith (Don), Rome; two brothers: Carly Staton, Armuchee and Bill Staton (Debra), Summervill­e and a number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Jonathan Cook, Rome.

Memorial graveside services will be held Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the East View Cemetery with Minister Michael Farris and Mr. Mark Hilbert officiatin­g.

Mr. Donald H. Starr, age 66, 38 Berkshire Drive Rome, Ga., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Redmond Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Homegoing celebratio­n will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. at Metropolit­an United Methodist Church, 700 Broad St., Rome, Ga.

Ms. Brenda Florine Morgan, age 57, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Morgan was born in Floyd County on December 14, 1958 to the late Ms. Cora Morgan and Mr. John Brooks. She was preceded in death by two brothers Mr. Isaiah Moran and Mr. Stanley Brooks; one sister Ms. Clara King, and one niece-Kenya Morgan.

Ms. Morgan leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, one daughterMr­s. Okista (Grady) Tory of Rome; two sons - Mr. Seth Morgan and Mr. Jarvis Morgan, both of Rome; five grandchild­ren; six sisters; one brother; and the father of her children, Mr. Rondald Fletcher, a wonderful friend of 40 plus years.

Services for Ms. Morgan will be Monday, August 29, 2016 at 12 noon, Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Terrell Shields officiatin­g. The body will lie in state at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery. Please keep the Morgan family in Prayer during the time of the loss of their loved one, Ms. Morgan.

Mrs. Harriet Whisnant Rogers, age 92, of Rome, passed away at her residence Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Summervill­e, Ga., November 24, 1923. She was the daughter of the late John B. Whisnant and Sarah Fay Taylor Whisnant. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. William A. Henson, II of Conyers, Ga., who was killed in WWII; and her second husband, David Rogers to whom she was married May 10, 1948.

She attended Shorter College and was active in many civic organizati­ons. Mrs. Rogers was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rome.

A memorial service for Harriet Whisnant Rogers will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rome, Ga. A reception to celebrate her life will follow in the Wilder Center at the church.

Survivors include four daughters and one son: Harriet Powell, Conyers, Ga.; Sally Johnson, Rome, Ga., David Rogers, Rome, Ga., Milda Rogers, Prescott, AZ, and Elizabeth Yancey, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Also surviving are several grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 202 East 3rd Ave., Rome, Ga. 30161.

Mrs. Glenda Jo McEntyre Page, age 79, of Rome, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at her daughters residence, in Cartersvil­le.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery. will begin collecting funds for Muscular Dystrophy Associatio­n starting Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. More than 170 firefighte­rs will fan out with boots in hand at locations throughout the city. The beef, as well as 240 chicken halves. Some 200 gallons of Brunswick stew and 25 gallons of baked beans will also be for sale.
