Months of speech-making, handshakin­g and much traveling were climaxed this week half a century ago with the election of governor and other state officers. Hugh M. Dorsey had been elected governor of Georgia and state representa­tives chosen included John W. Bale, Seaborn Wright and J.W. Hamilton. Congressma­n Gordon Lee was reelected to his position of Congressma­n.

After a long fight sponsored by minister, club women and others, an ordinance allowing the operation of poolrooms in Rome was approved by the city commission. However, strict restrictio­ns were placed on their operation.

*** Another interestin­g society item was the party for Miss Diana Meyerhardt, given by her young friends at her home.

Guests included Misses Mary Hamilton, Mary Best, Cornelia Richardson, Sara Glover, Katherine Daniel, Mary Mccoy, Doris Morris, Virginia Daniel, Sarah and Ruth Meyerhardt, Mary Harrison, Josephine Arrington, Marie Davis and Elizabeth Ramsey.

Other guests were Messrs. Thompson Hiles, Rowell Stanton, Robin Best, John Jervis, Hume Eastman, Sam Meyerhardt, Robert Harbin, Willie B. Broach, Robert Morris, Sydney Bowie, Felix Cantrell, Walter Futrell, Leo Fahy, Allison Ledbetter, James Harris, Richard West, Sam Magruder and James Harrison.
