Redmond receives honors for heart, stroke protocols

Redmond Regional Medical Center is the recipient of a trio of awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for quality stroke, heart attack and heart failure treatment. All three awards were given in recognition of adherence to Get With The Guidelines program, a hospital-based effort to ensure that hospitals offer consistent care for heart and stroke patients using the most up-to-date recommendations.

Redmond, which offers a broad range of heart care treatment options, was recognized for an initiative to enhance early follow-up care and improve patient education. A by-product of the education segment of the initiative is ensuring that patients adhere to medication directions.

A primary goal of the program is to reduce readmissions to the hospital and improve the quality of life for patients with chronic heart conditions.

Redmond Stroke Care Coordinator Melody Wright, a registered nurse, said that stroke patients can lose more 1.9 million neurons each minute that stroke treatment is delayed so the timeliness of treatment is critical to the outcome. “These awards further demonstrate our commitment to delivering advanced strokes treatments to patients quickly and safely, Wright said in a press release from the hospital.

New truck driving school opens in Dalton

On any given Sunday, the Rome News-Tribune classified advertising section includes numerous ads for over-the-road truck drivers with their commercial driver’s license. John Smith has stepped in to help meet industry needs with his Big Rig Driving Academy in Dalton.

Smith is seeking to fill a void that was left when Georgia Northwestern Technical College shut down the trucking program on its Calhoun campus.

“We are passionate and committed to help each individual obtain their class A license and develop a basic understanding of the trucking industry,” Smith said. His commitment to a high quality training program is evidenced by the fact the school only admits two students at a time for an intense 20day program. Each trainee will get at least 1,000 road miles during the training program.

The Big Rig Driving Academy offers its graduates a variety of unique perks. Big Rig will pay a $1,000 bonus for graduates who stay five years with the same company after they get a full-time driving position.
