2 Floyd County employees promoted
911 Director John Blalock and former county engineer Bruce Ivey are promoted to take on new roles.
The Floyd County Board of Commissioners promoted two Floyd County employees to two new positions during a called meeting Friday.
Rome-Floyd 911 Director John Blalock, who will continue directing the 911 call center, was also given the title of public safety liaison. He will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with all of Floyd County’s public safety agencies, County Manager Jamie McCord said.
“He’s going to make that communication line much better with our public safety agencies,” McCord continued, adding his new salary will be $77,900.
Blalock has worked in law enforcement for 22 years, McCord added.
Bruce Ivey, the former county engineer, was promoted to special projects manager. He will be responsible for managing most of the county’s largescale projects, McCord said, including special purpose, local option sales tax projects.
The county plans to ask for applications soon to fill Ivey’s former position, McCord added.
Ivey, who for eight years has worked for the county, will also work with the water department, public works and on other projects. His new salary is $75,000, McCord continued.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to expand my responsibilities and I’m looking forward to working on some of the new projects,” Ivey said.
The two men will assume their roles immediately, McCord said, but Ivey will continue to perform the county engineer duties until the position is filled.
McCord said both men are exceedingly qualified for their positions based on their backgrounds, educations and respect from others in their fields of work.
