The Model Blue Devils didn’t stumble out of the gate this week.

After struggling with Dade County in the first half last week, the Blue Devils were determined in a 42-7 victory against Armuchee Friday night. Model scored the first 28 points of the game despite starting quarterback Kyler Eldridge sitting out for most of the game.

“A start like that feels a whole lot better than last week,” Model coach Gordon Powers said. “We were just executing properly, avoiding turnovers and mistakes and making the plays when we needed to. We can be really good when we stick to those things.”

Blue Devils running back Chris Dublin recorded 164 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries, while quarterback Evan Burger tallied 107 rushing yards himself. On his only play of the game, Eldridge scored on a one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Armuchee struggled to produce much against a stout Model defense, as running back Jacob Henderson led the way with 51 rushing yards and a Chris Dublin touchdown in the third. Quarterbacks Seth Stanley and Brayden Perry combined for nine completions and 58 yards.

Dublin had two touchdowns in the first quarter, and then one more a few minutes before halftime to put Model up 28-0.

He finished his night in the third quarter with a 63-yard touchdown run that put his team up 35-7.

Model hardly went to the air all game long, only attempting four passes with Burger and fellow quarterback Jackson Couch. Powers said the team planned on mixing it up on offense, but Dublin’s effectiveness kept things on the ground.

The Indians play again next Friday when they travel to Coosa, while Model hosts Pepperell.
