Trion overwhelms North Cobb Christian on the road

- From staff reports

Trion bounced back Friday from two straight losses to shut out North Cobb Christian 28-0 on the road. The Bulldogs (3-2) scored once in each of the four quarters against the Eagles (0-4).

J.J. Jennings got the scoring started with a 24yard run in the first; Jarret Gill connected with Evan Walker on a 14-yard pass in the second quarter; Braden Johnson scored on a 1-yard run in the third; and Logan Blevins scored on a 1-yard run in the final quarter.

Blevins led the offense with 121 yards on 17 carries, and Jennings had 52 yards on six carries.

Walker shined on offense and defense with 86 yards on six catches, and 15 tackles and an interception.

Trion will next face Christian Heritage on the road Friday.

“We think once he catches on and figures it all out, he’s going to be a good player for us,” said Ackerman.

UCS (0-3) will next face Peachtree Academy on the road Friday.

Early in the second quarter preseason AllState running back Olico Dennis went down with a knee injury that appears to be serious after preliminary reports. Calhoun coach Hal Lamb said Dennis appeared to have torn the ACL in his knee and will likely miss the rest of the season.

“Losing Olico is going to hurt,” said Lamb. “But we’ve got to come together as a team. I think we did that tonight. We’ll dedicate this season to Olico, and I know the kids will rally around that. It’s a big blow, and it will take some time to get over because he is a special kid and special player. But adversity either brings teams together or tears them apart, and I think our team will pull together.”

The Jackets are on the road next Friday to open subregion play with a visit to Haralson County.
