Donald Trump: A clear and present danger to our country
There is a distinct possibility that Donald J. Trump will be elected the 45th president of the United States.
As such, Mr. Trump presents a clear and present danger to this country. He is a man totally unfit for such an honor and responsibility. He is a genius at what he does best; promoting the self-interest of Donald J. Trump.
The President of the United States is called to serve the American people. Mr. Trump has never demonstrated any inclination to serve anything other than his own enormous appetite for self-gratification.
He has publicly expressed admiration for the leadership of Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, who is not constrained by inconvenient constitutional authority. Trump has declared his commitment to use torture as a tool of foreign policy. He has declared a willingness to kill family members of targeted terrorists which is a crime against both national and international law.
His involvement in 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades is unprecedented for a presidential candidate. At campaign rallies he has touted his negotiating skills in his business dealings. It turns out that he utilizes lengthy, protracted lawsuits as one of his favorite negotiating tools to get his way, deploying his wealth and legal power against neighbors, bankers and investors with limited resources.
As president he would be dealing with rogue nations and outlaw armies who will not be intimidated by his personal wealth and bevy of lawyers.
He revels in his role as the Great Divider. Despite the prospect of extraordinary human suffering and an astronomical financial cost, he has pledged to expel as many undocumented immigrants as possible. He has called for a federal law banning all Muslims from entering this country.
He is clueless about how to cooperate with others in a collegial or collaborative manner. His leadership style is “my way or the highway.” His campaign staff has been in constant turmoil. Like some South American strongman, his trusted advisors are limited solely to his grown children.
His disdain for women except as sexual objects is clear to see. When he called New York Times columnist Gail Collins a dog and ridiculed the appearance of rival Carly Fiorina, these were not exceptions to his usual behavior. No woman with the gall to challenge or criticize him escapes his insults and scorn. His twitter feuds with Megyn Kelly, Rosie O’Donnell, Cher, Bette Midler, Angelina Jolie and others make for good TV theater, but are unbecoming to a serious presidential candidate.
For five years the Republican nominee for president stoked the notion that Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii but in Africa, thus delegitimizing Mr. Obama’s presidency. If Trump believed such nonsense, then he is not qualified to be president.
If he did not believe such nonsense and still peddled it publicly, then he is not qualified to be president.
While on the campaign trail in July 2015, Mr. Trump revealed the shriveled nature of his character and the miserliness of his spirit when he debunked the idea that John McCain is a war hero.
“He is not a war hero,” Trump told a flabbergasted Frank Luntz, moderator at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.
“He was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
McCain’s fighter jet was shot down in 1967 over Hanoi. McCain ejected, fracturing both arms and legs. He was captured and tortured repeatedly by the enemy. When the North Vietnamese learned that McCain’s father was a Navy admiral, they offered him special treatment and an early release. McCain refused.
He spent five years in captivity, much of it in solitary confinement.
John McCain is a war hero and was a worthy candidate for the presidency in 2008. He is a hero because he demonstrated courage in combat and loyalty to a cause greater than himself.
Donald Trump has no clue about such character and behavior.
